Recipe type: Meat
Serves: serves 2
  • 2 x 200g ribeye steak (1.5 inch thick)
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika
  • Olive oil
  • 40g unsalted butter (divide into 2 portions)
  • 8 cloves garlic – smashed lightly (divide into 2 portions)
  1. Take out the steak from the fridge and bring to room temperature, around 30 mins.
  2. Season the steak generously with salt, black pepper, a few dashes of garlic powder and paprika.
  3. Rub a tablespoon of olive oil all over the steak. This will help to seal in the seasoning and prevent moisture from being drawn out of the meat.
  4. Heat your cast iron pan until hot. Add 2 tbsp olive oil and reduce heat to medium high once the oil is slightly smoking.
  5. Carefully add in the steak, one piece at a time and allow it to sear in the pan for about 2 minutes.
  6. Turn the steak over and add in butter and garlic.
  7. Let the steak cook for another 2 minutes, while basting the melted butter onto the steak.
  8. Remove from pan and place the steak on a plate. Cover with aluminum foil and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  9. Continue to cook the other piece of steak.
  10. Serve with your favorite side dishes.
