Sweetheart Palmiers

Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I’m making these Sweetheart palmiers for Tiger. I made my own pink sugar by adding a drop of red food color to the granulated sugar. Palmiers are deliciously sweet, crispy snacks made of puff pastry and sugar. These fancy little treats are also known as elephant ears and butterfly (could you make out the resemblance?). Since only two ingredients are needed to make palmiers, the star ingredient, which is the puff pastry plays an important role...

Bear Naked Food Be My Valentine Dark Chocolate Cookies

Be My Valentine Dark Chocolate Cookies

This "Be My Valentine Dark Chocolate Cookies" is in fact an Oreo cookie recipe. To be honest, I think they tasted better than the real Oreo cookies (sorry Nabisco, no offense). I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to make them too. The sweetness level of vanilla filling contrasted perfectly with the mildl flavored chocolate cookie so it is absolutely not necessary to reduce any sugar...

DIY Chinese Fortune Cookies

I’ve always wanted to try my hands on making fortune cookies and if you are looking at ways to use up your egg whites (thanks to the Chinese New Year season + cookies making period), you could definitely consider this DIY Chinese Fortune Cookies recipe. I believe the ingredients are easily available in your pantry and the only tricky part is molding the cookies into shape. But not to be too overly concern though – I became quite an expert after my third attempt!

Tom Yum Prawn Cookies

Festive cookies are one of the must-have goodies when it comes to celebrating Chinese New Year. This Lunar New Year, I decided to make these Tom Yum Prawn Cookies, instead of the usual traditional cookies...

Cassava Cookies

These Cassava Cookies are definitely one of the star Chinese New Year goodies from Bengawan Solo, a local bakery that all Singaporeans could relate to (I hope). Calories aside, these cookies have a crunchy exterior but melt-in-your-mouth texture which is uniquely addictive. Thanks to the addition of parmesan cheese powder, it lent a hint of savory taste which gave these cookies that unusual sweet + savory taste.

Daifuku Mochi

Making Daifuku Mochi has always been on my to-do list but somehow, I just did not get round to making it. Until now. I’ve read horror stories about how people burnt their fingers/hands while making these sweet, soft rice balls as you have to knead and roll them into shape while they are still hot. The rice dough will not stick when cooled. Maybe that was one (or the only) factor that was delaying my mochi-making journey...

Savory Crispy Cheese Cookies

This Christmas, I’ve decided to make these Savory Crispy Cheese Cookies over the usual sugar cookies. You’ll need only six ingredients to pull off this recipe. These cheese cookies have a crisp texture on the outside and crumbly on the inside. I love munching on them with a piping cup of hot tea. They are good, and I mean it...

Quick and Easy Christmas Fruit Cake

I’ve been receiving multiple requests from BNF fans requesting for a fruit cake recipe. After multiple researches and few recipe tests, I’m proud to present you this Quick and Easy Christmas Fruit Cake. Actually, you could enjoy this rich and ultra-moist fruit cake anytime of the year but since Christmas is around the corner, I wanted to make this for my dad-in-law who is a huge fan of fruit cakes...

Dark Chocolate Roulade with Roasted Strawberry Mousse

The name of the recipe post “Dark Chocolate Roulade with Roasted Strawberry Mousse” might sound all fancy and stuff but do not be intimated. It is really an easy-to make flour-less sponge chocolate roll filled with (lots of) light wondrous whipped cream and roasted strawberries. I decided to use a flour-less recipe for the cake as I prefer it to be lighter side and also for anyone who is looking for a gluten-free dessert recipe. Since Christmas is around the corner, this would make a wonderful dessert and centerpiece at lunch or dinner. A homemade cake just brings special joy to the holidays. The cake would not be completed without blanketing it with a layer of decadent dark chocolate fudge all over and to create that Yule Log effect, I used a fork to give it the signature peeling bark look...

Balsamic Roasted Strawberries

I can’t believe I’ve missed making these Balsamic Roasted Strawberries most part of my life. Well, as they say - better late than never (who is they anyway??). Roasting strawberries not only releases their natural sweetness, it also intensifies the flavor and create that syrupy jammy goodness. The acidity in the balsamic vinegar lends a slight tang to create an overall sweet and tangy mouthfeel. These balsamic roasted strawberries are perfect to go with your ice-cream, in your yogurt, on top of your breakfast pancakes and even in cakes...

Best Ever Chocolate Fudge Brownies

I can’t believe this post never made it out sooner. I think this is one of those recipes I reckon is so common I didn’t think anyone would be interested. Until now. Besides my Easy Banana Chocolate Sheet Cake, these Best Ever Chocolate Fudge Brownies is the other most requested pot-luck dessert from hosts of dinner parties I’ve attended/will be attending soon to bring along. Even for those parties I was not invited to. (kidding, it was for my mom-in-law’s gatherings and I have no intention to gate crash any of them, hee hee).

Banana Bread Cookies

Even though they are called Banana Bread Cookies (mainly because of the shape), the texture are super fluffy, moist and almost cake-like. Thanks to the use of the super ripe banana, they smelled and tasted 99% like banana bread. I can’t help but to open the cookie jar every now and then to get a whiff of that addictive aroma.

Salted Chocolate Brownie Cookies

If you have made my Outrageous Chocolate Cookies or Red velvet Chocolate Chips Cookies (hope you enjoyed them as much as I did!), you should know my immense love for soft and chewy cookies. Not to mention chocolatey. The craze for adding salt to desserts has been going on for quite some time (salted caramel being the top favorite combination). Since Tiger and meh-bear are salted dessert junkies, I decided to jump into the bandwagon and make these salted chocolate brownie cookies for them...

Cream Cheese filled Banana Cake

Couple of days ago, I was doing my weekend grocery run and guess what? There were a few big bags of ripe bananas sitting at the fruits weighing station, crying out “Buy Me”, with a price tag of $2 bucks! The offer was too irresistible and since we are huge banana fans, it would be fitting to add that bag into our grocery cart...

Best Blueberry Muffins

It is not very often I would label something as ‘BEST’ since I’m a natural skeptic. Tiger (aka hubby) would be the best judge for that. He thinks my palette is too difficult to please. Very often, the restaurants we visited based on rave reviews online turned out to be meh. (Meh – an expression of indifference, uninterested or boredom. Used frequently by my teenage daughter. source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meh). Maybe my expectations were too hyped up by those astounding epicurean vocabulary used in the food reviews. Anyway, that’s another story.

Pandan Chiffon Cake

If you are from Southeast Asia, then this Pandan Chiffon Cake should be a sight for sore eyes. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered the origin of this light, fluffy sponge cake hails from Indonesia. The signature green of this cake usually comes from the juice of pandan leaves aka screwpine leaves although green food coloring is also commonly used to enhance the color...

Homemade Lemon Curd

I love everything lemon. From dishwashing liquid, liquer to desserts (yeah, that is a totally unrelated spectrum), I just can’t get enough of that zesty, lemony tang. Today’s recipe is all about my childhood’s favorite dessert spread – Easy Homemade Lemon Curd.
