Newly opened since October this year, Avenue is taking our very own Archipelago Singapore’s craft beers out of the hands of the hipsters and placing them in the more casual context of a CBD community gastrobar.
Located at Suntec City Tower 2, You could find four types of craft beers – Belgian Wit, Bohemian Lager, Singapore Blonde Ale and Irish Ale. Spoiled for choice, I went for a Singapore Blonde Ale. It turns out to be a lemon-colored blonde ale with strong citrusy notes of calamansi and pandan with a clean finish. It’s fresh and unusual.
Going beyond the drinks, Avenue boasts an impressive menu that goes beyond your typical bar snacks standards.
My favorite of the night has got to be the Asian Otah Otah Pizza. Pizza aficionados would agree on one thing: It’s all about the crust. The crunchy exterior was thin yet chewy enough to hold the toppings and bubbling mozzarella really well. Soggy pizza is definitely a no-no for me, thankfully, it wasn’t the case.
The tower of Oven Baked Wings with their special in-house Avenue sauce are close to sublime. It is a breath of fresh air from the usually predictable deep fried chicken wings.
It’s still early days for Avenue. There is definitely room for improvement in the service area but I truly recommend trying out the super addictive Otah Pizza. If I’m ever in town on a weekday night and in need of good beer and grub, I know where I will be heading to.
