Who says alcohol is the only way to celebrate festive occasions? Non-alcoholic drinks aka virgin drinks are as pretty as they are delicious.
Since strawberries are in season now, I managed to snag a few boxes at a super low price. The rest of the ingredients are readily available in any supermarkets or grocery stores. Have fun making and enjoying this pretty looking Strawberry Sunrise Fizz, I know I did!
Ingredients:
For strawberry syrup –
Fresh strawberries – 1 8 oz. box (250 g), washed and hulled
½ cup white sugar (more or less, depending on the sweetness of the berries)
¼ cup water
1 tsp lime juice
For the drink –
Orange juice
Sparkling water / soda water
4 – 6 tbsp strawberry syrup
Some ice cubes
1 lime – cut into thin wedges (to garnish)
Makes approx. 3 highball glasses
Strawberry Syrup:
Using a food processor, blend and strain the strawberries. You will have roughly 2 cups of thick strawberry pulp.
In a saucepan, add the strawberry pulp, sugar, water and lime juice and bring to a gentle boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 10 mins until thicken and coats the back of a spoon. You should be left with roughly 1 cup.
Let it cool before storing in a glass container/jar. Refrigerate until needed.
To make a drink:
Start by filling a tall glass with crushed ice or small ice cubes. Then add equal amount of the sparkling water and orange juice.
Drizzle 1-2 tbsp of strawberry syrup on top and wait for it to sink to the bottom. Garnish with a thin wedge of lime and serve immediately.
Note: Add a shot of tequila or vodka for alcoholic version.
